Relocating to North America brings plenty of questions, and one of the first is usually: how do I find a family doctor who actually has openings?

    Start with in-network providers

Before you call any clinic, check your insurance plan directory. Staying in-network means lower copays and fewer surprise bills. Most insurers let you filter by language, gender, and specialty online.

Factor Why it matters What to ask
Board certification Confirms the doctor is fully trained in family medicine Are you accepting new patients?
Location Close clinics are easier for same-day visits What are your office hours?
Hospital affiliation Matters if you need inpatient care Which hospital do you refer to?

    Book a meet-and-greet visit

Many clinics offer a short introductory appointment. Use it to gauge communication style and wait times. A good fit early on saves frustration later.
